Field Conditions and Work Schedule
- Some remote exploration areas require employees living and working in higher predator (bears, wolves, etc.) territory.
- Living conditions range from tent camping to staying in local establishments.
- If employed as a Senior Geologist, Geologist or Geotechnician, duties may require employees to carry a pack containing gear and samples weighing up to 50lbs.
- Employees will be working around heavy duty mechanical equipment (dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders), aviation equipment (helicopters, float planes, etc.), and camp support equipment (4-wheelers, chainsaws, picks, shovels, generators, etc.).
- MI employess will be working with people from a variety of social backgrounds and from all aspects of life.
- Individuals will be expected to develop a cooperative spirit in field operations. Flexibility is a key component because project needs vary due to changing project focus or equipment breakdowns.
- MI employees will be expected to work in inclement weather (mud, rain, snow, sleet, hail).
- Due to Alaska's short summer season employees can work several weeks witout a break.
- Work ScheduleProjects in the field out of Fairbanks are continuous until the project is completed.
- For projects close to or in Fairbanks, a typical week is 5-7 days with one day equalling 10-12 hours.
- General work schedules vary with client requests and assigned duties.
